First Ukrainian edition. The book consists of [16] pages with illustrations, measuring 23.5 x 20 cm, and is in the Ukrainian language. The book exhibits signs of wear, has a damaged spine, and is spotted and soiled. An illustrated children's book published by Ukrainian refugees in a limited edition for distribution in the Displaced Persons (DP) camps of post-war Germany. The challenging conditions in these camps, marked by limited resources and military censorship, make such publications significant. Originally, the German writer and poet Hans Theodor Woldsen Storm (1817-1888) penned the fairy tale "Der kleine Hawelmann" in 1849, a story about a boy reluctant to go to bed. This tale gained widespread popularity after German artist Elsa Wentz-Fitor illustrated it in 1926, with her artistic style influenced by Edmund Dulac. The 1947 Ukrainian edition of "Iurchyk Mandrivnik," is more a retelling than a direct translation of Storm's tale but fully replicates the design of the 1926 German edition.
