Originalausgabe. - Angeregt wurde die Planung der Stadt von Max Frisch, dem Soziologen Lucius Burckhardt und dem Historiker Markus Kutter. Diese forderten in ihrem Pamphlet «achtung: die Schweiz» anstelle der Landesausstellung 1964 den Bau einer neuen Stadt, ganz im Geist der modernen Zeit.Die Schrift löste landesweit heftige Diskussionen und in der Presse über 1000 Kommentare und Berichte aus. Einzig die Architekten reagierten zurückhaltend.Schliesslich wurde die Idee von Prof. Ernst Egli und weiteren Kollegen der ETH Zürich aufgegriffen, es entstand eine umfassende Studie zu einer Schweizer Musterstadt im Furttal, die sogenannte «Furttalstadt», die allerdings nie gebaut wurde. Projekt und Stadtmodell gerieten bald nach der Publikation der Studie in Vergessenheit.
