Aside from a few erased pencil marks on the end papers, the contents, including a frontispiece and fifteen additional color illustrations by Rowland Wheelwright, appear clean, complete and securely bound, albeit with a bit of age-appropriate tanning to the text pages. Uncut fore edge; well-faded staining of the top edge. Blue cloth with stamped gilt lettering on the spine and upper board. The upper board (and the dust jacket) also has a pasted color illustration--i.e., a copy of of the illustration opposite page 484. Bit of rubbing to the lower corner tip of the upper board; rubbed spine head edge that includes a touch of fraying. Brown paper dust jacket with black lettering/decoration and on the front, the aforementioned color illustration. Small tears/chips in the corners (including the spine corners), but still a nice looking dust jacket that is now in a protective clear plastic cover.
