This book presents a selection of Bewick's engravings and writings on the subject of monuments, both personal and public. The text contains writings from MEMOIR, two letters and several notations made by Bewick and his daughter Jane in the margins of two 1821 volumes of the BRITISH BIRDS now in the Victoria and Albert Museum Library, London. Sixteen tailpieces were selected and carefully reproduced on copper from the MEMORIAL EDITION. Other illustrations tipped in include a portrait of Bewick from an original engraving by Burnett, a halftone photograph of Bewick's gravestone and a print pulled on troya paper from an original block.
