The author is credited as M'Cready Sykes, although at least one online source references Booth Tarkington as a co-author. Tarkington, William B. Pell, and Harold Imbrie are officially credited as providing the pictures or illustrations that accompany the text. Booth Tarkington (1869-1946) was an American author and playwright. He is only one of four authors to date who won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once. He won two Pulitzer Prizes for his novels, The Magnificent Ambersons (1918) and Alice Adams (1921).
