This book recounts the first troop engagements at the start of the American Civil War with the bombardment of Fort Sumter and continues through the end of the Peninsular Campaign in July of 1862. During this period the South was wholly on the defensive and the battles were all fought on Southern soil. At the end of this period the Civil War seemed as far from completion as it did on the completion of The First Battle of Bull Run in 1861. A clean presentable copy.
