It quickly became one of the most celebrated clubs in the country and in 1901 was selected by the six-year old USGA to host the U.S. Women's mateur Championship. Virtually all the greatest players in golf history played here, from Harry Vardon and Bobby Jones to Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
