Inscribed in ink to ffep: Presented to Sir Alan Wilson on the occasion of his visit to Iran by the resident staff of Glaxo Group 23.5.71'. Bound in full tan morocco, gilt title and border to upper board, gilt titling and deco…ration to backstrip with five raised bands, acetate jacket. The front matter states 'This edition specially prepared for I.A.D.A. Ltd (Mebso Bookshop) Tehran', and seems to be a reprint of the book 'Persia' published by Thames and Hudson in 1969. It is titled 'Iran' although the two names are used interchangeably in the text. The rather lavish binding is a scarce variant, and highly suitable for a presentation volume as here. Sir Alan Wilson was the chairman of Glaxo from 1963 - 1973, and formerly a pioneer in the early study of semiconductors. Very Good (backstrip faded, leather of the boards faintly mottled, otherwise Fine with inscription as noted). Roger Wright (photos) (illustrator).

The Author's Presentation edition and third edition of George Müller of Bristol, a charming biography on the Christian evangelist, written and signed by American Presbyt…erian minister Arthur T. Pierson, with an introduction by James Wright. Published in 1900, first published in 1899. In the publisher's original green cloth, with a frontispiece of Müller and all twelve illustrated plates. Collated complete. Presentation bookplate signed by Pierson and Wright to front pastedown. Most famous as the Director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, Müller established one-hundred and seventeen schools and offered Christian education to over one hundred thousand people. A friend of Müller, Pierson himself was an influential pastor and preacher, giving preaching to both Native Americans, British and Korean audiences. In the publisher's original green cloth. Externally, mostly smart, with a couple of faint marks to boards. Slight rubbing to joints and edges, with bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Slight offsetting to end papers, with a graze to bottom edge of rear pastedown. Slight wear to rear end paper hinge. Signed bookplate to front pastedown, with previous owner's ink signatures to front free end paper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with minor age toning and the odd pencil annotation. Very Good. Various (illustrator). signed by author. book.
