No Binding. Zustand: Near Fine. Letterpress portfolio consisting of a set of 29 broadsides enclosed in a plexiglass frame and a card solander box. Released in 1980 after ten years of close collaboration between Professor Hermann Zapf in Darmstadt and Philip L. Metzger of the Crabgrass Press in Kansas City. A typographic tour de force that features quotations on art, science and the human condition. Prose, poetry, anagrams, and palindromes in English, German, French and Japanese comprise an elaborate type specimen. Showcases Zapf's typefaces as well as those of Gudrun Zapf von Hesse and a few others. Printed on a variety of vintage and handmade papers from France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States. Most broadsides are printed in two or more colors. This copy is number 18 of 99 copies printed, which sold out immediately. Signed by Zapf and Metzger. Prospectus, note on the box and spare label are included. The only flaw is a bump to the left lower corner of the frame, resulting in a very small crack to the plexiglass face. Enclosed in the lightly used cardboard solander case with a spine label. Extremely scarce on the market. Signed by Artist and Printer.…
