However, her findings and conclusions became controversial and in this work Derek Freeman. a NZ anthropologist, sets out his reasons for concluding Mead made significant errors in her research and why Samoa was not the paradise of free love and goodwill that she presented. When first published by Harvard University Press in 1983 Freeman's book received wide publicity and was regarded as a important work on psychology and human behaviour.
