Atthree o'clock on Monday July 20, England were 92 runs short of saving an innings defeat in othe Third Cornhill Test. By the end of the next day England had won by 18 runs - after a magnificent 149 not out from Ian Botham and a truly unbelievable 8 for 43 from Bob Willis. Less than a fortnight later it happened again: Botham took the last five Australian wickets for just one run, winning the Fourth Test by 29 runs. Another two weeks later, at Old Trafford, Botham made a hundred in 86 balls. His six sixes were the most ever hit in a Test innings, and put England 506 ahead with not much more than 10 hours to play.
