His wife's anecdotal essay recalls their experiences photographing figures in the arts, including Colette, Picasso, Cocteau, and Stravinsky. Roth later became photographer to the film industry and made portraits of James Dean, Ava Gardner, and dozens of others. His photographs, which appeared in Life , Paris-Match , etc., are photojournalistic and new to today's audience. Record # 351261.…

Sanford "Sandy" Roth was an internationally known portrait photographer who photographed many of the celebrities of the 1950s. This book, containing photos of movie stars, musicians, writers, artists, were selected by his wife as a homage to Roth after his death in 1962. There are over 100 portraits ranging from Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor to Louis Armstrong and Igor Stravinsky to Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. The dustjacket shows James Dean, Grace Kelly, Collete and Albert Einstein. Included is an introduction by Aldous Huxley. 11 x 11" softcover; black, light card covers with glossy pictorial dustjacket; 108 pages of 128 gsm matte art stock. Includes a preface by Roth's wife, Beulah, and an index of the photos. Covers, text and dustjacket show only a touch of wear at the spine ends, a bumped upper corner that left a light crease in the margins. No tears, not remaindered.
