This book reevaluates the written sources traditionally used to explain the similarities between the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, challenging long-held assumptions about the existence of a hypothetical document called Q. Through a meticulous examination of non-Marcan passages common to Matthew and Luke, the author presents evidence that Luke was directly dependent on Matthew for this material. The dominance of the Two-Document Theory in Synoptic studies is historically traced to the work of Ferdinand Christian Baur, who sought to prove that Mark was the latest of the Gospels. However, the author argues that the data indicate a dependence of Luke on Matthew, rather than the traditional view of Mark as the source for both. This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the non-Marcan coincidences between Matthew and Luke, providing new insights into the compositional history of the Gospels.
