The Dutch made their fist contact with natives at Cape York in the early 1600s. Halls takes up the story from that point in chronological chapters beginning with the discoverers , the Macassans, the British navigators and the First Fleet from England with its contingent of troops. The various uses of guns of all descriptions for many uses --- punitive, protection, hunting, sport, bushranging, law enforcement and on active service in six wars from 1885 to 1973. A chapter "Maoris, Missionaries and Muskets 1815-1864" covers conflict in NZ. A history of a subject little covered in primary publications, ranging from pocket pistols to coast defence guns. 176 pages including bibliography, index, 19 colour photos (most full-page), b/w photos, art, drawings and diagrams throughout. White hard covers with black front/spine titles VG with small blemish lower front and light partial hand print to rear board, internally excellent, with text block of high quality paper, no inscriptions.
