This book introduces readers to the remarkable story of the Inheritors, a mysterious race of formidable intellect, who come to claim the Earth as their home. The narrative follows the tale of a writer who encounters a beautiful woman who claims to belong to this otherworldly race, and who beguiles him with philosophical discussions on the nature of art and the trajectory of human development. As the writer finds himself increasingly entangled with the enigmatic woman, he witnesses the Inheritors' growing power, and their ruthless machinations to reshape society. The book delves into the complexities of societal and ethical evolution, challenging traditional ideas of humanity, inheritance, and the individual's place amidst relentless change. Ultimately, it prompts readers to contemplate the profound implications of a future where technological and intellectual superiority could potentially overshadow the human experience. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A quasi-science fiction book called The Inheritors: An Extravagant Story (1901) was co-written by Joseph Conrad and Ford Madox Ford. Its themes of corruption and the impact of the 20th century on the British nobility were foreseen because it was written before to the First World War. William Heinemann published it initially in London, and McClure, Phillips and Company later that same year published it in New York. The 'fourth dimension' metaphor is used in the book to explain how a traditional generation of individuals with values of interdependence has been replaced by a more contemporary generation that values expediency and uses political power callously to overthrow the status quo. The story's narrator, an aspiring writer, experiences a similar transformation in his own life but ends up feeling as though he has lost everything.

First UK edition. Conrad and Ford's collaborative quasi-science-fiction novel exploring a societal shift in power. Two volumes: the first issue without dedication page [Cagle A6(3)a] together with a copy of the seldom seen remainder issue [Cagle A6(4)]. FIRST ISSUE is in Cagle's binding "a" with top edge untrimmed and publisher's 32-page catalog bound in at rear. Good or better with professional repair to head of spine and hinges. REMAINDER ISSUE is one of only 199 sets of sheets from the first issue that were bound up in 1909 for sale to Mudie's Lending Library (per Cagle) though this copy shows no indication of such. Somewhat smaller than the first issue and in a cheaper binding of smooth plain yellow cloth with all edges trimmed. Very good or better with light wear to covers and endpapers a little darkened. An interesting issue that is quite scarce to rare.
