The basis for this book is the large collection of monotype faces held by the press, which includes Bible Centaur and all the other monotype faces originally held by the Oxford University Press. Each one has been elegantly displayed in a variety of different sizes and a deliberate attempt has been made to show the rarely-seen larger sizes. The texts are extracts from books or articles published by the press and are accompanied by an original illustration. Randall employs 21 typefaces using between 3 and 10 sizes per face, to create this specimen book in which he presents the faces using published selections that are printed in incrementally smaller type. Faces include: Baskerville, Bodoni, Caslon, Centaur, Garamond, Perpetua, Times Roman, and more. Illustrations throughout by Gwenda Morgan, Eric Gill, Robert Gibbings, Edward Ardizzone, and others.
