First published in 1833, this is the second edition of McAlpine's Gaelic Dictionary. A fifty-three page introduction discusses the rudiments of Gaelic grammar, followed by the main dictionary where we learn that buaireasachd is a turbulence of temper, dubhlachd s wintry weather, a leob is an ugly slice or piece of any thing, and a rocaideach is a rook. Condition: A complete but poor copy. The text block has become detached from the boards and the inner binding is delicate. The cloth binding is rubbed, bumped and frayed, and the book is readable only with delicate handling. Previous owner's annotations to the endpapers, and an ownership stamp of Yewbank, Beauly in Inverness-shire. However, quite rare to find in this early edition.
