Hardcover. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Corners and edges are slightly shelf; This is truly a unique book, offering new information for LDS readers interested in understanding Emma Hale Smith, wife of Joseph Smith the Mormon prophet. More than 75 photographs of Emma and her posterity grace the book. All of her 11 children and 28 grandchildren who were ever known to have been photographed are represented. This volume also includes a notebook of interviews with there of Emma's grandchildren who knew her intimately - eyewitnesses to her sensitive personality and the cross-currents of emotion that affected her discussions. In the copiously annotated interviews we see Emma's singular witness to the prophetic call of Joseph Smith and find kinship in the ordinary circumstances of her daily life in Nauvoo. Additionally, this book presents ten interrelated biographical essays. Rooted in a keenly felt and well-researched perspective of Emma's life, the essays capture the emotion, thoughts, and experiences that made up the Elect Lady's distinct world. With his extraordinary gift for comprehending the attitude and emotions of the Smith family, the author reveals the sources of the failures and successes of Emma's married life, the grief over the deaths of her children, the oppression of poverty and persecution, her hatred of plural marriage, her leadership of the Nauvoo Relief Society, and her participation in the sacred temple ordinances. Mr. Youngreen uses important new source material to go beyond the works of previous writers who have often sought to cast Emma Smith into the distasteful and superficial images of saint or sinner. What emerges is a clearer picture of the First Lady of the Restoration, a picture that every Latter-day Saint will thoroughly enjoy. ; 6.25" x 9.25"; 133+ pages Very Good worn. Gift Inscription to previous owner inside front cover. Overall book is excellent. Nice, tight and clean. Black & White images throughout. Signed by author Buddy Youngreen on title page.…

Zustand: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Reflections of Emma is a book about a lifetime of thoughts of a woman known only to us as Emma. While on one of their many journeys to the northeast part of the country, Robert (Bob) and Becky found her Bible, an 1864 King James version, in an antique store in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. It had over a hundred clippings from newspapers and magazines on a wide variety of topics relevant to her time. These clippings held special meaning to Emma and gave Bob insight into her world and thoughts. After purchasing the Bible, Bob and his wife visited the northeast multiple times, spending hundreds of hours searching through local courthouses and libraries. They searched both local and national magazines and newspapers, attempting to document exactly where each article in Emma's Bible originated. In the end, there was only one clipping that could not be documented. While on these trips, they also went through courthouse birth and death records and visited countless cemeteries all over the northeast, attempting to discern Emma's last name; this also was to no avail. We may never know who she was, but she left us with a lasting view of mid- to late-nineteenth-century America.…
