Paperback. Zustand: Good. Too damned fast. We're falling too damn fast. No choice now. We will stop. And I will die. Thus begins the wild and wonderful journey that is Make Others Greater. After his near-death experience at Pico de Orizaba, a climb that claimed the life of his best friend, Gary Guller made a decision to keep climbing. His decision was not without cost; to pursue climbing again meant the amputation of his left arm. In the years to follow, Gary would negotiate with armed Maoist rebels, stand atop several of the world's highest peaks, complete an Ironman competition, and compete in the Marathon de Sables-the world's toughest footrace. He would also lead the largest group of persons with disabilities to ever reach base camp. Gary would later become the first person with one arm to Summit Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world. From Sir Ernest Shackleton to Circuit City, from IBM to Caravaggio, Make Others Greater combines Gary's incredible stories with those of leaders and businesses around the world and throughout time to deliver a commanding and inspirational message of resilience and empowerment. Survival alone doesn't define us. It's what we learn from the experience that does. We all climb our own Everest. Make Others Greater illuminates the path onward and upward.…

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Way to Will-Power By Henry Hazlitt Contents I--A RevelationII--The Intellect as a ValetIII--The Price One PaysIV--Old Bottles for the New WineV--Resolutions Made and Resolutions KeptVI--Success and the Capital SVII--The Scale of ValuesVIII--Controlling One's ThoughtsIX--The Omnipresence of HabitX--The Alteration of HabitXI--Will and the PsychoanalystsXII--ConcentrationXIII--A Program of WorkXIV--The Daily ChallengeXV--Second and Third WindsXVI--Moral Courage Excerpt YOU have seen the advertisements. The lion and the man are facing each other; the man upstanding, hands clenched, his look defiant and terrible; the lion crouching. Who will win? The man, without doubt. He has what the beast lacks, Will-Power. And at the bottom of the page is the triangular clipping which you cut out and send for the book on how to acquire it. Or perhaps the advertisement promises you a $10,000 a year position. Nothing less than $10,000 a year seems capable of attracting the present-day reader of twenty-cent magazines. And those positions, one learns, are reserved for the men of Will-Power (not forgetting the capitals). The advertisements betray bizarre ideas about the will and will-power. Any one who has the remotest notion of psychology might be led from them to suspect the advertised course. But the advertisements reflect not alone the advertiser's ideas, but the ideas of the plain man. they are written to catch the plain man's eye, and they do catch his eye, else how account for their persistence, their enlargement, and their multiplication, notwithstanding the notorious expensiveness of advertising? Now I am about to reveal a profound secret about the will. The revelation will cause a good deal of shock and disappointment and a bedlam of protest. However, I derive courage to meet the protest because I have an imposing body of psychologic opinion behind me. I have behind me most of the reputable pscyhologic opinion since Herbert Spencer. And so here it is: The will does not exist. I repeat it, lest you fancy there has been a misprint. There is no such thing as the will. Nor such a thing as will-power. These are merely convenient words. Now when a man denies the existence of the will he is on dangerous ground. It is as if he were to deny the existence of the tomato. Yet I do. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Windham Press is committed to bringing the lost cultural heritage of ages past into the 21st century through high-quality reproductions of original, classic printed works at affordable prices. This book has been carefully crafted to utilize the original images of antique books rather than error-prone OCR text. This also preserves the work of the original typesetters of these classics, unknown craftsmen who laid out the text, often by hand, of each and every page you will read. Their subtle art involving judgment and interaction with the text is in many ways superior and more human than the mechanical methods utilized today, and gave each book a unique, hand-crafted feel in its text that connected the reader organically to the art of bindery and book-making. We think these benefits are worth the occasional imperfection resulting from the age of these books at the time of scanning, and their vintage feel provides a connection to the past that goes beyond the mere words of the text.…

Paperback. Zustand: Good. The groundbreaking guide to the 40 best colleges you've never heard of--colleges that will change your life Choosing the right college has never been more important--or more difficult. For the latest edition of this classic college guide, Hilary Masell Oswald conducted her own tours of top schools and in-depth interviews, building on Loren Pope's original to create a totally updated, more expansive work. Organized by geographic region, every profile includes a wealth of vital information, including admissions standards, distinguishing facts about the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and what faculty say about their jobs. Masell Oswald also offers a new chapter on how students with learning disabilities can find schools that fit their needs. For every prospective college student searching for more than football and frat parties, Colleges That Change Lives will prove indispensable. Fully revised and updated by education journalist Hilary Oswald, Colleges That Change Lives remains the definite guide for high school students (and their parents) who are looking for more in their college education than football, frat parties, and giant lectures. Building on the foundation of landmark author Loren Pope, Oswald spent more than a year visiting 40 colleges, speaking with students, faculty, and alumni to create these vivid and concise portraits. Featuring a new introduction, a new Required Reading section, and a new chapter on learning disabilities, the book is organized into five geographic regions (Northeast, South, Midwest, Southwest, Northwest) to make for easy browsing, and urban, suburban, and rural campuses are all featured. There's also an alphabetical index of colleges. Each profile includes admissions standards as well as relevant statistics to make your decision easier, including where the school ranks in post-graduate grants and fellowships, what percentage of students go on to graduate school or further education, distinguishing facts about the curriculum, percentage of professors who have terminal degrees in their field, even what activities are available to students and what they're likely to do on weekends.…

Zustand: Good. Celebrate the holiday spirit with two heartfelt tales about unlikely lovers by New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts, combined for the first time! Gabriel's AngelTragedy drove Gabriel Bradley into isolation. A secluded cabin, far from those who failed him, provides the shelter his broken heart requires to heal and the space he needs to nurture his works of art. Then in the midst of a blizzard, a very pregnant Laura Malone appears on his doorstep, shivering from more than the cold. His mysterious, beautiful guest--willing to risk her life to protect her unborn child--is clearly in danger. And as Gabriel reluctantly cares for Laura, she returns his attentions with affection and passion, restoring his ability to hope, dream, and to love once again. A Will and a WayWhen her beloved Uncle Jolley died, Pandora McVie couldn't imagine her life without him--only to discover that he planned for her future by leaving her $150 million. But to collect her inheritance, Pandora must spend six months in her uncle's isolated Catskills mansion with her co-beneficiary, Michael Donohue. If being set up on a half-year date that lasts through Christmas by a last will and testament isn't humiliating enough, Pandora finds living with Michael intolerable--even as she falls in love with him.…

Zustand: Fair.

Paperback. Zustand: Fair.
