No Binding. Zustand: Very Good. 260 x 185 mm. In acid free Mylar envelope. Menu of the famed Stockholm restaurant Hasselbacken, printed especially for a gala dinner on September 6, 1889. Printed after an illustration by Axel Sjöberg, who was often commissioned for such illustrations by Hasselbacken. The gala was part of the International Congress of Orientalists held at shared locations: Stockholm, Sweden and Christiania, Denmark. Orientalists from Europe, American the Middle East and Asia were invited to the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway to participate in the Eighth International Orientalist Congress, held between 1 and 12 September. Apparently at least 530 people were invited to the convention but I do not know if all of them were invited to Hasselbacken nor what the seating capacity of the restaurant was back in 1889. The current restaurant can seat approximately 140 people. The menu was painted by Axel Sjoberg. Axel Sjöberg (6 November 1866 - 5 October 1950) was a Swedish painter. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1932 Summer Olympics. His work was featured in an exhibition at the Nationalmuseum Sweden and has appeared at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $339 to $4,973.
