Soft cover. Zustand: New. Mahimnaḥ Stava is a famous hymn in praise of the greatness of Śiva believed to have been composed by Pushpadanta a Gandharva in thirty-one verses. This is regarded as a standard work depicting the orthodox Śaiva theology. The entire hymn is inscribed on the wall of the Jyotirlinga temple at Omkaresvar in Madhya Pradesh, which is dated to approximately 1063 CE; it is thus considered an authentic manuscript. Sri Madhusūdana Sarasvati, a prominent Advaita philosopher, wrote a unique commentary in a dual way as applicable to Siva and equally applicable to Viṣṇu. He brought forth the concept that there is only one God (although with different names and forms.) Everyone is free to worship using any name or by any means, but will ultimately reach the same destination just as all rivers reach the ocean. This is very significant as several persons were propagating different cults, claiming the superiority of their philosophy, and degrading others thus creating widespread interreligious enmity and disharmony in the Hindu religion prevalent during his time, which is relevant even today.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. The problem of a sense of lack and the resultant wanting is never-ending and universal. We may be fortunate enough to have a life where this problem does not seem major or we may be able to mask it by continuously striving to obtain what we like and to keep away what we dislike. Despite all this we yet reach a stage, perhaps towards the end of our lives, where we begin to question whether our lives have a more fundamental meaning and whether we will ever succeed in fully & permanently resolving our sense of incompleteness. These questions have been addressed by many philosophical and religious traditions over millennia but, in all these, Advaita Vedanta stands out as being unique and effective. This is not only because it has amazing insights into the truth of things but also because it employs an exceptional teaching method which has been preserved over generations by an unbroken chain of teachers. Dhruv S. Kaji has been an ardent student of Vedanta who has had the benefit of learning from some illustrious teachers. In this book he shares several interesting and useful insights into important aspects of Vedanta. By using a contemporary approach, he makes it easier for the reader to relate to ideas and concepts which can be otherwise difficult to convey to a modern reader. As Swami Tadatmananda Saraswasti says in his foreword to this book, "Dhruv seems to absorb wisdom from the vast ocean of Vedanta, extracting only its essence, and leaving all the complexity behind. Then he shares this distilled wisdom through books like this one.".

Yoga practitioners often have to navigate through a jungle of information in order to seek answers to their questions. What exactly is the goal of yoga? Is it relevant for contemporary yoga practitioners to study the Yoga Sutra? What do the various Indian gods and goddesses really symbolise? And what do yogic and tantric traditions have in common? This book offers its readers a clear overview of the origin and historical development of yoga and tantra, and an in-depth understanding of the various philosophical systems and concepts used under the name "yoga philosophy". The book also provides insight into how the classical literature often referenced in yoga can be understood contextually, i.e., how it relates to and reflects the time and place it originated in. As well as how yogic mythology and its many deities can be used to put words on an inner experience or shed light on aspects of ourselves. The book is a must read for voga teachers, curious practitioners, as well as knowledge seekers.

It is unique in the history of Odia literature as it reflects the cultural, political and aesthetic heritage of the Odishan landscape. Here the soul of nature is unified with the poet along with the intense experience of poetic joy. The poem celebrates the captivating beauty of the lake Cilika in a novel way that brings together the romantic traditions of the East and the West. Though the poem is Wordsworthian in its theme, the spirit and images inherit the influence of Valmiki, Kalidasa and Jayadeva.

"I Am Shiva" delves into the profound philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism, identifying Param Shiva as the universal consciousness, transcending the image of a sage meditating on Mount Kailasha. This consciousness descends through 36 tattvas, from Shiva tattva to Prithvi tattva, creating a continuum from Shiva to Jiva, from macrocosm to microcosm. It interconnects all sentient and insentient beings, forming the essence of our existence, where all things emerge and eventually merge back into this divine source. Centered on the verse "Chiti Swatantra Vishwasidhihetu" from Pratibignya Hridayam, "I Am Shiva" unveils the divine potential within each person. It demonstrates that every individual has the vision and free will to transform their life. By recognizing and transcending the ego, readers can connect with their universal self, endowed with boundless knowledge and the power to act. This book provides a roadmap for ascending back to this universal consciousness, from Jiva to Shiva, by recognizing and un-layering the power of our inner consciousness and enabling us to affirm that "I am Shiva." It guides us to realize that the power to shape our reality lies within us. The book proposes a Vision Model, guiding readers on how to transition from a transactional vision to a transcendental vision. It offers practical solutions for managing life at physical, mental, spiritual, and universal levels. Through this Vision Model, "I Am Shiva" empowers readers to transcend the limitations of a purely materialistic perspective by demonstrating that the material world is not something to be renounced, but rather embraced and transformed. It reveals that by integrating spiritual practices into everyday life, one can achieve a harmonious balance between personal ambitions and a higher sense of purpose.

The Vacanamala, a sub-commentary on Visvarupa's commentary Balakriḍa on the Yajnavalkya Dharmasastra, is a late medieval text originating probably in Kerala and edited here for the first time. The author does not reveal his name, at least in the extant portion of the commentary. He demonstrates an encyclopedic knowledge of vast domains of learning, including grammar, lexicography, and, especially, Dharmasastra. His familiarity with the medieval commentaries and legal digests is impressive. The three prominent Dharmasastric scholars he cites most often are Vijnanesvara. Devana Bhatta, and Varadaraja. Some of these citations have significant textual differences from the printed editions of the works of these authors. Visvarupa's is the earliest and the most important commentary on Yajnavalkya, and the Vacanamala is an important medieval voice that helps us understand and interpret Visvarupa's often difficult language and expression.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Yoga has a long history, from early indications in the Harappan civilisation (2900-1900 BCE) among wandering ascetics and forest hermits and echoes in the early Upanisads (600-400 BCE). The first instructions for practice were formulated by the Buddha (563-483 BCE) as the eightfold path to liberation. A remarkably systematic instruction appeared in a short passage within a composite text known as Patanjali's Yoga Sutra (cca 300-400CE) consisting of an eightfold path (astanga yoga). Various other yoga paths were elaborated in later Upanisads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Puranas. The present series is intended to publish research works of high academic standard, which could serve as reliable guides for evaluating books on yoga appearing in the market.
Hardcover. Zustand: New. The most alarming situation today is the degradation of environment. There is a perpetual deterioration of environment internally, externally and cosmically. Environmental pollution is rooted in `Avidya'. External disturbances are sparked by the distortion of internal states, which lead to pollution, deforestation, animal cruelty, global warming and other environmental concerns. The present book attempts to deduce 'Environmental Ethics' from the subtle metaphysics of Sankara Advaita Vedanta. It delves deeply into His philosophy, spiritual Sadhana, works and practical endeavors in order to emphasize an environmental and eco-esthetical perspective that elevates 'Environment' to the status of the 'All-pervasive Truth, Highest Good, Supreme Beauty, and Ultimate Reality.' One can particularly see the above said viewpoint highlighted in Adi Sankaracarya's Prakarana granthas. The book identifies lessons of universal compassion in view of environmental harmony. It focuses on the elucidations in accordance with the teachings of Advaita Vedanta and endeavors to apply the same in the most practical manner. It is to be pointed out that no known research or book related to Adi Sankaracarya's philosophy and environment has been carried out or published in India or abroad. Therefore, this book emerges as a unique, innovative and critical work of all times. The aim of this book is not merely to see environment in view of Adi Sankaracarya's philosophy rather it also endeavors to kick-start a new era where ancient thoughts, philosophies, teachings and visions will be reinterpreted while being rooted in their metaphysics in order to deal with the current environmental, social, political, religious, scientific and cosmic chaos.
