First editions, st…ated, of these author's first two volumes on the intrepid women of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, drawn from oral family history accounts, original letters, and documents, and first presented in a series of lectures taught at Peninsula College by Glynda Peterson Schaad. Peterson (1897-1989) was the first generation daughter of Swedish-American immigrants, and became known as "The Packer" throughout the Olympics and Hoh river, operating the family ranch with husband Oscar, as well as working as guide (1927-1978), outfitter, and packer for trips through the Olympic Mountains. The second work drawing upon letters, newspaper accounts, and photographs details the lives of Harriet Pullen who shipped her pack horses from Washington to Skagway, Alaska so she could freight over Dead Horse Trail on White Pass into the Yukon, Guptill elected to a government post before women had the right to vote, Caroline Jones who homesteaded on Lake Crescent; Anna Petrovna who "went Native" living out her short life as a slave of the Makah, of the Quileute woman, Susie Morgenroth, and others.
