Of course, the destination of a speculative presentation includes the process of development in such a way that the end is always implicitly the beginning: each configuration simply forms a deter minate moment within the on-going manifestation of the 'absolute'. It is around Hegel's concept of the absolute, how it is known and how it presents itself, which the bulk of our discussion turns. We may say tentatively that the absolute speaks. This speaking is the manifestation of the absolute itself, not a dissimulation or mere appearance, and consequently can be known and known most perfectly in language. In Hegel's system, this speak ing or discourse has exhausted itself and is complete, but in what manner this 'close' is achieved remains the question which disturbs and provokes our own speech in what is to come.

Neuware - Breast cancer, being a disease with very high prevalence in the female population, has permanently attracted the attention of biologists, biochemists, pathologists, surgeons, and oncologists. In the U.S. alone approximately 120,000 new cases are diagnosed and 37,000 deaths a year are recorded as an…outcome. Early diagnosis, clear cut prognosis and the hope of new therapeutic approaches has spurred the enthusiasm of researchers, who with the advent of newer methodologies, tried to employ it in different approaches to the breast cancer patient. In spite of the efforts devoted towards the creation of new approaches, reagents and procedures taking advantage of special characteristics of the breast tissue were slow to come. In general, most diagnostic and prognostic techniques were those shared and applied to other carcinomas. In the early seventies we discovered the first sets of antigens associated with breast epithelial tissue both in the mouse and the human. The recognition of such group of molecules, present in the milk fat globule membrane, gave impetus to several studies in these areas. These mammary cell surface antigens proved useful in several diagnostic approaches such as radioimaging, histochemical and serum assay procedures. However, the apparently inherent limitations of polyclonal antibodies reduced the impact of these novel approaches.

At the subcellular level, plasma membranes provide the anatomical basis for maintenance of optimal potentials of excitable cells; the anatomy and physiology of the sarcolemma ultimately determines the response to drugs and metabolic perturbants. At the cellular level, much progress has been made in our understanding of cultured and adult myocytes during ischemia and hypoxia; in particular, the electrophysiology of these model systems is well understood and several chapters address this approach.

These cryptographically secure generators are 'good' in the sense that they pass all probabilistic polynomial time statistic…al tests. However, despite these nice properties, the secure generators known so far suffer from the han- cap of being inefiicient; the most efiicient of these take n2 steps (one modular multip- cation, n being the length of the seed) to generate one bit. Pseudc-random number g- erators that are currently used in practice output n bits per multiplication (n2 steps). An important open problem was to output even two bits on each multiplication in a cryptographically secure way. This problem was stated by Blum, Blum & Shub [3] in the context of their z2 mod N generator. They further ask: how many bits can be o- put per multiplication, maintaining cryptographic security In this paper we state a simple condition, the XOR-Condition and show that any generator satisfying this condition can output logn bits on each multiplication. We show that the XOR-Condition is satisfied by the lop least significant bits of the z2-mod N generator. The security of the z2 mod N generator was based on Quadratic Residu- ity [3]. This generator is an example of a Trapdoor Generator [13], and its trapdoor properties have been used in protocol design. We strengthen the security of this gene- tor by proving it as hard as factoring. 508 pp. Englisch.

The model we…present here is called Asian Link System. The countries in this system include Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and the United States. They are covered by national models. The rest of the world is divided into several regions and treated by simple proto-type models. The main characteristics of Asian Link System are to deal with the inter-dependent relations between Asian developing countries on the one hand and Japan and United States on the other hand. Here are presented these national models and the Asian Link System with the underlying statistical data, so that any econometrician can re-estimate our models and check the results of our research work. Nowadays most articles and books in econometrics report only the final results or conclusions of research so that no other econometrician can re-calculate or re examine the findings. This is very serious in the empirical research, because as theorists may make mistakes, positive economists do commit errors or miss some possible considerations. In the author's view, most of the literature on 'systems' is either technic…al in mathematical sense or technical ifF engineering sense (with technical words such as noise, filtering etc. ) and not easily accessible to researchers is other fields, in particular not to economists, econometricians and quantitative researchers in so cial sciences. This is unfortunate, because achievements in the rather 'young' science of system theory and system engineering are of impor tance for modelling, estimation and regulation (control) problems in other branches of science. State space mode~iing; the concept of ob servability and controllability; the mathematical formulations of sta bility; the so-called canonical forms; prediction error e~timation; optimal control and Kalman filtering are some examples of results of system theory and system engineering which proved to be successful in practice. A brief summary of system theoretical concepts is given in Chapter II where an attempt has been made to translate the concepts in to the more 'familiar' language used in econometrics and social sciences by means of examples. By interrelating concepts and results from system theory with those from econometrics and social sciences, the author has attempted to narrow the gap between the more technical sciences such as engi neering and social sciences and econometrics, and to contribute to either side. 200 pp. Englisch.

It is intended for both chemists and physicists. It can be read without much knowledge of quantum mechanics or mathematics, since all such details are ex…plained-. It has developed through a series of lectures at the Royal Institute of Technology. The content is to about 50 % theoretical and to 50 % experimental. The reason why the authors, who are experimentalists, went into theory is the following. When we during the beginning of the 1970's measured photo electron spectra of organic molecules, it appeared to be impossible to understand them by use of available theoretical calculations. To handle hydrocarbons we ( together with C. Fridh ) constructed in 1972 a purely empirical procedure, SPINDO [1] which has proved to be useful, but the extension to molecules with hetero atoms appeared to be difficult. One of us ( L.A.) proposed then another purely ~~E!E!~~! EE2~~~~E~ ( Hydrogenic Atoms in Molecules, HAM/1, unpublished), in which the Fock matrix elements f5.y were parametrized using Slater's shielding concept. The self-repulsion was compensated by a term '-1'. The ~~2~~_~ff2E~, HAM/2 [2] , started from the total energy E. of the molecule. The atomic parts of L used the Slater shielding constants, and the bond parts of E. were taken from SPINDO. The Fock matrix elements Fpv were then obtained from E in a conventional way. 304 pp. Englisch.

It was my wish to write this book in English, and there were what seemed to me to be serious reasons for doing so. In recent years there has appeared a wealth of…literature, in Russian, about Russia. As a rule, this literature has been published outside the USSR by authors who still live in the Soviet Union or who have only recently left it. A fair amount of important literature is being translated into English, but I believe it will be read main ly by specialists in Russian studies, or by those who have a great interest in the subject already. The majority of Russian authors write, of course, for the Russian reader or for an imagined Western public. It is my feeling that Russian authors have serious difficulties in understanding the men tality of Westerners, and that there still exists a gap between the visions of Russians and non-Russians. I have made my humble attempt to bridge ~his gap and I will be happy if I am even partly successful. The Russian world is indeed fascinating. Many people who visit Russia for a few days or weeks find it a country full of historical charm, fantastic architecture and infinite mystery. The final chapter shows how the data on regeneration requirements of different species can be used to explain a number of important characteristics of whole plant communities. A discussion of seed size and number involves a consideration of the concepts of resource allocation, life cycles and strategies. In the author's view, most of the literature on 'systems' is either technical i…n mathematical sense or technical ifF engineering sense (with technical words such as noise, filtering etc. ) and not easily accessible to researchers is other fields, in particular not to economists, econometricians and quantitative researchers in so cial sciences. This is unfortunate, because achievements in the rather 'young' science of system theory and system engineering are of impor tance for modelling, estimation and regulation (control) problems in other branches of science. State space mode~iing; the concept of ob servability and controllability; the mathematical formulations of sta bility; the so-called canonical forms; prediction error e~timation; optimal control and Kalman filtering are some examples of results of system theory and system engineering which proved to be successful in practice. A brief summary of system theoretical concepts is given in Chapter II where an attempt has been made to translate the concepts in to the more 'familiar' language used in econometrics and social sciences by means of examples. The model we pres…ent here is called Asian Link System. The countries in this system include Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and the United States. They are covered by national models. The rest of the world is divided into several regions and treated by simple proto-type models. The main characteristics of Asian Link System are to deal with the inter-dependent relations between Asian developing countries on the one hand and Japan and United States on the other hand. Here are presented these national models and the Asian Link System with the underlying statistical data, so that any econometrician can re-estimate our models and check the results of our research work. Nowadays most articles and books in econometrics report only the final results or conclusions of research so that no other econometrician can re-calculate or re examine the findings. This is very serious in the empirical research, because as theorists may make mistakes, positive economists do commit errors or miss some possible considerations. Unless statiscal data are offered, other econometricians cannot make suggestions or improve the models. It has developed through a series of lectures at the Royal Institute of Technology. The content is to about 50 % theoretical and to 50 % experimental. The reason why the authors, who are experimentalists, went into theory is the following. When we during the beginning of the 1970's measured photo electron spectra of organic molecules, it appeared to be impossible to understand them by use of available theoretical calculations. To handle hydrocarbons we ( together with C. Fridh ) constructed in 1972 a purely empirical procedure, SPINDO [1] which has proved to be useful, but the extension to molecules with hetero atoms appeared to be difficult. One of us ( L.A.) proposed then another purely ~~E!E!~~! EE2~~~~E~ ( Hydrogenic Atoms in Molecules, HAM/1, unpublished), in which the Fock matrix elements f5.y were parametrized using Slater's shielding concept. The self-repulsion was compensated by a term '-1'. The ~~2~~_~ff2E~, HAM/2 [2] , started from the total energy E. of the molecule. The atomic parts of L used the Slater shielding constants, and the bond parts of E. were taken from SPINDO. In an attempt to fill this gap medical students at University College Hospital, London, have since 1958 been given the opportunity on a voluntary basis to treat a pa tient with weekly analytically-orientated psychotherapy under supervision for a year or longer. In 1977 a similar scheme was started at the Psychosomatic Clinic of Heidel berg University. We were fortunate in obtaining generous financial support from the European Community which has enabled teachers and students from our two uni versities in Great Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany to collaborate in this student-psychotherapy teaching project and to compare our experiences. In this book we present an account of this joint educational endeavour, including our successes and our failures, as well as our attempts to solve some of the problems we have en countered. We decided to let individual supervisors and teachers who inevitably differed in their approach write their own contributions rather than try to present a unified pic ture which would not have given a fair impression of our work and experience.
