Soft cover. Zustand: As New. 1st Edition. Les Murray wrote of the first story in this collection,'The Deck Chair is a fine story, well told?' All these stories are rewarding in a quietly powerful way with starting visual threads. Ann Howard writes of families, inheritance, migration, memory and the landscapes that shape us. From the Hawkesbury River, which she loves, to Western Australia's Coast, these stories explore what is lost, what endures and what returns. Clear eye and compassionate, Howard's prose reveals the hidden currents beneath ordinary lives. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Zustand: As New. 1st Edition. A signed as new copy of this unique collection of stories and photographs researched by the author and laying out the story is an experiences of the supposedly voluntary migratory children from the UK to Australia. They came out from the 1920s to the 1960s, following in the Barnardo tradition of removing children from dirty dangerous cities to a life of sunshine and oranges. The sad mothers who either gave this consent or did not also have a place in this volume. The children relied on the kindness of strangers - some of them were only six years old. This book and the sequel: C'Mon Over! give these brave children who were stoic and somehow found fun and laughter and rose to the challenge of being sent to a new country alone to become successful adults.
