Corners bumped, head and tail of spine lightly nibbled; inscribed by Eiby oppostie the title page: For a valued colleague and friend, with respect for the achievements of Australian seismology and good wishes for its future. J.A. Eiby. From the National Linbrary of New Zealand website: George Allison Eiby (1918-1992) was prominent New Zealand seismologist. Educated at St Marks School Wellington and Cathedral Grammar, Christchurch, he became a DSIR cadet in 1939. Apart from 4 years in Britain as a radar mechanic during World War II he remained with the DSIR until he retired, as superintendant of the seismological laboratory, in 1979. He published widely on seismology, astronomy and the history of science. His book `Earthquakes' (1957) became a standard work. His non-scientific interests were extremely wide. He was an authority on the history of theatre, and produced more than 100 plays for local drama societies. He was a founder of the film society movement in New Zealand, was a keen musician and exhibited photos and sketches. He bequeathed the bulk of his collection of books, papers and art to the Alexander Turnbull Library, along with copyright in his work. (Retrieved 31/08/2020). Published during the International Geophysical Year, an international scientific project that lasted from 1 July 1957 to 31 December 1958. Australia and New Zealand were two of sixty-seven participating countries. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 1369

Our books are all in good reading condition unless otherwise described. Ordering books sight unseen is risky so we undertake to deliver accurately described books. If you are not satisfied return the book immediately by return mail and we will credit your account for the full amount minus postage.
The shipping prices quoted on ABEBooks reflect what we have found to be the "average book". Of course in reality there are many books that do not weigh what an "average book" weighs so there are times when we need to requote shipping, just as there are times when we are in position to refund some of the shipping. Please rest assured we try to get your order to you for a reasonable price, as quickly and as well packed (we carefully pack all of our parcels in book boxes) as possible.
