Beschreibung
First edition thus. An octavo-size, sewn-bound paperback original (in this edition). Wrappers slightly soiled, verso of wrappers a bit foxed, a phone number written on the back wrapper, as well as a sticker for a Sydney theatrical shop (covering the UK price of 6/6 net), o/w very good in an added clear archival jacket for this copy. An early and interesting edition of a ground-breaking British play, first performed at the Royal Court Theatre, London, on 8th May, 1956, directed by Tony Richardson and starring Kenneth Haigh, Alan Bates and Mary Ure. This edition has a three page introduction by Osborne, writing about the first reactions to the play, and discussing the cast, as well as pointing out the availability and price of producer's copies of the play and the music, available from the present publisher. There is also a frontispiece b/w photograph of the set from the (first?) production. The only copyright date noted is 1956, but a publisher's code on the last page, as well as the playwright's foreword, point to 1960 as a date for this edition. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 32529
