First edition. Hardcover. Top edge just slightly browned, o/w fine in like dustjacket with a couple tiny tears at the head of the spine repaired. McMurtry's fourth novel, a huge one rarely found in this condition. The British edition (or, at least this copy) has a British title page tipped in, is bound in the two-tone quarter cloth and papered boards (of the American edition), with Simon and Schuster stamped at the bottom of the spine. The US dustjacket (designed by Paul Bacon) has been printed with the British price and publisher on it. The copyright page states "Printed in Great Britain.", but this may refer only to the title page. Both binding and paper are good quality, and this copy does not suffer from the remainder stamp found on many copies of the American edition. The unclipped jacket still carries the original two prices (2.75 pounds and 55 shillings), a publishing precaution because February 15th, 1971 was the date the UK made the change from a duodecimal to a decimal currency system.
