The present edition, like the other four Dutton editions of Gissing's novels published in the late 1920s, is the American counterpart of the [UK] Nash and Grayson edition. It consists of sheets imported from England, and is undated, but was published in April 1929. Copies were also issued in a lighter green cloth, with gilt titling on the spine. Dutton imported 1,040 sets of sheets from Nash and Grayson, 250 of which were bound in February 1929. The rest, probably including this copy, were bound in April 1930.
