A fascinating account of the early introductions of exotic species to New Zealand, including those of some surprising species such as squirrels and zebras whose populations did not manage to survive in the wilds of New Zealand. The work is arranged with chapters on the different orders of animals - mammalia, birds, reptiles and amphibia, fishes, mollusca, insects with myriapoda, crustacea and arachnida, pentastomidae, platyhelminthes, nemathelminthes, oligochaeta - and of plants - dicotyledons and coniferae, monocotyledons and ferns. Other chapters include: "Interaction of Endemic and Introduced Faunas"; "Alteration in Flora since European Occupation of New Zealand"; "Acclimatisation Work; General Considerations".
