No signatures. Gutta percha binding has perished and about half of the plates are detached and loose. Gutters split at hinges. Rubbing to leather along joints and edges of boards. Joints still strong. A 1/2" tear to leather at head of rear joint. Some shaved areas of leather at corners of rear board. A 2/3" tear to leather along tail end of spine. <1/2" loss of leather at tips of corners of boards. The plates all have extensive foxing to the blank outer marginal areas, but the inner printed areas are clean. No previous owner's signatures or marks. Heavy foxing to endpapers. ; Engraved title + letterpress title + 3 preliminary leaves + 43 engraved plates, each with a guard leaf and an accompanying leaf of letterpress. This copy is in the original full morocco binding with gilt decoration to front and rear boards and also to the spine. Gilt dentelles. Pale yellow endpapers. Page dimensions: oblong 275 x 208mm. The title page vignette illustration is by Nicholas Chevalier. The other plates are unsigned, but are by various artists. The engraving work is by A. Willmore.
