Beschreibung

Aquatint of a "Wardmote" officer and his collegues checking the weights and consistency of the goods. This hand coloured aquatint was wholly designed and engraved by W. H. Pyne for his Costumes of Great Britain. Some thumb prints on the image and in the white especially the lower right, would probably lift with care. Measures approx 15 x 10 inches (36 x 20 cm). And there is a page of letterpress with this explaining the image and the methods of operations. Forerunner of the Weights and Measures in trading standards we have today. Begun in some form or other since 1383. Three offenses and it was a 20/- fine and the pillory. Bestandsnummer des Verk�ufers 8242
