William Nelson was the elder brother and heir of Lord Horatio Nelson, who had inherited the title of Duke of Bronte from his brother. Horatio Nelson was granted the Sicilian Dukedom by King Ferdinand II of Sicily in gratitude for having saving the kingdom from Napolean. His brother William, apart from inheriting the Dukedom was himself created Earl Nelson in recognition of Horatio?s achievements.
