Small oblong piece of paper with the signature of the 4th Earl Stanhope."Please to admit the bearer.this twenty ninth day of march 1830" Stanhope. (two short words not recognised). Typed details on the reverse, mounted on paper. *The Earl was an aristocratic eccentric, he made a bit of a show of himself when becoming mixed up in the sad and controversial support of the alleged fraud and "feral child" Kaspar Hauser in Nuremberg in 1831. We very rarely use "fine" or "mint" as a description, mainly due to the age and the fact that 99.9% of what we sell has been pre-owned and therefor Fine would not be a term for a book we sell despite its fine-like appearance. We always take items back unreservedly if not in the condition as described. We always try to describe fully.
