Le satellite mesure des températures de brillance émises par l'océan et émergeant au somment de l'atmosphère, à différents angles d'incidence. Il s'agit d'inverser ces mesures pour restituer la salinité de l'océan. La méthode d'inversion qui a été utilisée ici est une méthode statistique basée sur des réseaux de neurones. Ce choix est justifié par la non linéarité du problème et le nombre assez élevé de paramètres en jeu.
