Valdensti byli jednou z prvnich skupin v Evrope, ktere mely preklad Pisma svateho ve svem jazyce. Jejich vira, povazujici rimskou cirkev za odpadly Babylon, je vystavila pronasledovani. Nekteri v reakci na tlak ustoupili, jini vsak zustali verni pravde. V tezkych casech odmitali svrchovanost Rima, uctivani obrazu a zachovavali pravou sobotu. I pres hrozby a muceni se neochvejne drzeli Boziho slova.Ve skolach, kam prichazeli, si nesmeli vytvorit duverne vazby. Jejich odev byl upraven tak, aby skryval vzacne opisy Pisma, ktere nosili stale u sebe. Tyto rukopisy, vysledky mnohamesicni prace, sverovali pouze tem, o nichz verili, ze prijmou pravdu. Mladi valdensti byli od utleho veku vychovavani k tomuto cili a ve vzdelavacich institucich ziskavali stoupence prave viry. Casto se stavalo, ze zasady prave viry pronikly do celych skol, a presto stoupenci papezstvi nedokazali zjistit puvod "zhoubneho kacirstvi". Valdensti tak i pres neustale pronasledovani uchovali svou viru a odhodlani.
