On the 18th of April 2013, Anouk Kruithof and two assistants went to Wall Street in New York City and built a temporary installation of 14 framed prints of different sizes on the edge of the city's pavement. The prints looked like pixelated monochromes, but were in fact illustrations blown up to a maximum size (3200% in Photoshop) of images found by using Google, searching the word "stress". Anouk Kruithof asked pedestrians to look at the installation and then had conversations about the pixelated monochromes, the meaning of this project and the potential interpretations of the work. Kruithof asked the people involved if they would like to buy a print, both engaging a commercial gesture and condemning the scarcity of the city dwellers encounterings. She sold 8 of the 14 prints bought by 7 participants when the day's rain warded off further efforts. Kruithof is not allowed to conduct monetary transactions, so that once a participant told her a price for the print, she actually gave it away for free, thus creating an imaginary sale.…

Hardback. Zustand: New. Immersed in collector Brad Feuerhelm's vernacular photo collection, artist Anouk Kruithof moved into a bungalow where she developed a niche relationship with the photos and transformed the image archive. She visualizes scenarios in which images, through the imaginary space of our conception, and parallel to digitization, leap across the tooth of time. The personal image relations, all but magically approached and released, offer new perspectives, to relate us, one-to-one with the image, to the present post-digital image economy in which our image memory moves. Furthermore, the technical angles give insight into the way we can process our image memory. The five differently-processed image stories make this book a layered 'Gesamt-sculpture' that has a lot to say about the actual status of our image memory. The Bungalow is an 'image wonderland' in which a closed meeting represents the 'bite' of the leap. She makes photo, video, and spatial installations as well as social, in-situation works or "take away art. " She is a frenetic artist-bookmaker. Her work has been exhibited worldwide and she won numerous prizes. Brad Feuerhelm is a London based, American collector and dealer in vernacular photography. He is also a writer on photography for such publications as 1000 Words Photography, The British Journal of Photography and Eyemazing. Through exhibitions and publications he collaborates with artists using his collection as a source for new artist-books (as in the case of The Bungalow) or as a starting point for organizing exhibitions, such as Unnatural Selection, which he curated at UNSEEN Amsterdam in 2013.…

"This fascinating artist's book by New York-based Dutch artist Anouk Kruithof transforms selections from collector Brad Feuerhelm's vernacular photo collection into five dramatic, mysterious and erotic visual narratives that Kruithof calls image-stories. To accomplish this the artist isolated herself in a bungalow for an extended period of time with digitized versions of the photographs and played with their organization and layering on the computer screen. The resulting alterations and collages saved as screen-shots comprise her experiments with making sense of this voluminous archive. Interspersed between the stories are excerpts from the email correspondence between artist and collector." Appeared on a number of critics' "Best Books of 2014" lists. Essays and texts by Anouk Kruithof and Brad Feuerhelm. From a first edition limited to 1200 unnumbered copies. 272 pages; color and b&w plates throughout; 7 x 9.25 inches. Text in English.…

Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Be Like Water brings together for the first time a large selection of artworks made by Anouk Kruithof over twenty years (200223). Exploring and re-imaging photography and sculpture, Kruithof has placed the interaction, collaboration and relationship between people and their (natural and/or technological) surroundings at the core of her practice to create liberating and disturbing artworks. Be Like Water is both textual and visual, enriched with the purpose of focusing in on her work and the fluidity of her practice. This volume is a retro-perspective; by combining and mixing works in an anti-chronological and anti-thematic way, Kruithof presents a newly evolved narrative that interweaves complexity and multiplicity with fun and play, and at the same time leaves room for a critical reinterpretation. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…
