Überschneidungen und Divergenzen wurden bewußt in Kauf genommen, um eine geschlossene Darstellung innerhalb der einzelnen Kapitel zu gewährleisten. Auf ständige Querverweise zwischen den Kapiteln wurde ebenso verzichtet, wie auf eine Vereinheitlichung abweichender Ansichten. Die Wiedergabe einiger kontroversen Standpunkte und schwieriger Zusammenhänge erschien angemessen, um den derzeitigen Kenntnisstand zutreffend abzubilden. Die individuelle Handschrift der Verfasser ist deutlich erkennbar, etwas verwischt wurde sie lediglich bei den Übersetzungen des Herausgebers aus dem Englischen.
