In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores scattering in waveguides and the bounds on elements of equivalent circuits that describe this phenomenon. The author shows how to apply variational principles and trial functions to scattering problems, extending their use to multiple, hollow, and composite obstacles that are symmetric about a central axis." The book is grounded in solid mathematical theory, but the material is presented in an accessible way that progressively introduces readers to the concepts. The detailed numerical examples and solved problems will aid comprehension and help readers apply the theory to their own research. This book effectively bridges abstract theory and real-world applications, making it a must-read for students and researchers in waveguide theory, scattering, and electromagnetics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

This book takes a deep dive into the use of variational techniques in scattering problems, introducing rigorous bounds on the error terms and, hence, on the phase shift. The author, an acknowledged expert in the field, begins by explaining the basic principles involved before moving on to discuss the application of these ideas to specific problems. The book is well-written and comprehensive, providing a valuable resource for anyone working in this area. In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is an investigation into the development of variational bounds on scattering phenomena. The author demonstrates a new approach to the problem of determining upper and lower bounds on the elements of multichannel scattering matrices. The method is applicable whenever the scattering matrix can be diagonalized on some a priori basis, and involves the introduction of an integral variational principle which is cast as an identity. While the variational principle itself is not a new concept, the present approach shows how to bound the explicitly exhibited second order term. Numerical examples are calculated for a one-dimensional attractive square well asymmetric with respect to the origin. The author's work is significant because the method presented here can provide useful results in many multi-channel problems for which there would otherwise be no practical approach. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book is concerned with the underlying science and design of laser materials. It emphasizes the principles of crystal-field engineering and discusses the basic physical concepts that determine laser gain and nonlinear frequency conversion in optical crystals. A concise review of the essential underlying science is presented, and the predictive capabilities of crystal-field engineering are developed to show how modification of the symmetry and composition of optical centres can improve laser performance. Applications of the principles of crystal-field engineering to a variety of optical crystals are also discussed in relation to the performances of laser devices. This book will be of considerable interest to physical, chemical and material scientists and to engineers involved in the science and technology of solid state lasers. It will be used by senior undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as by established scientists.
