The book has a fish on the cover. GLOSSY FRONTIS and THREE INTERNAL ILLUSTRATIONS! COMPLETE and CLEAN! The creamy white THICK pages have NO TEARS! Front hinge is broken with some webbing exposed. The owner has neatly printed his info in pencil. This is a good plus copy.This is the 1924 Grosset & Dunlap printing.

The spine strip has faded, its ends are frayed, and it has a meandering, vertical bend line. The boards' corners are frayed. The front board is faded except along the bottom end, has a 3/8 in. stain, and two bumpy lines that appear to be weaving flaws in the cloth. Nearly half of the back board is darkened by a water stain. The text block ends have darkened. The front endpaper is split over the hinge, has two 1/4 in. stains, one of which is at the beginning of the inscribee's name. The front margins of the frontispiece and frontal matter (Our Chatter Box) have water stain, some of which is pink. The first 14 pages have less water stain on the front margins. The top corners of 60 pages and one plate have light water stain, 4 of those pages have water stain on the top margins, and two have waterstain crossing the top 7 lines of text. Cloth is noticeably faded and rubbed, with two distinct moisture/lightened spots on the rear cover and additional surface soiling. Spine lettering remains legible but dulled; cloth at spine edges is worn through in places. Text block is complete and firmly bound. Pages are evenly age-toned, typical of early-1930s juvenile paper stock. No loose pages observed. Interior is generally clean but shows scattered light soiling and handling wear consistent with use. Bound in red cloth with navy lettering and a front cover image of a freckled goldfish (This is the second of three binding styles for this book series). Illustrated with a frontis and three images on glossy paper by Bert Salg. Top edge with a publisher applied navy stain. Map endpapers (Same for front and rear). In the original Bert Salg illustrated dust wrapper. Wrapper enclosed in a removable clear plastic protector. This is the second in this 16 title series, originally published in 1924, with this being a 1937 printing (Based on a previous owner date at the front). This printing with a five page 'Chatterbox' correspondence section at the front. Book with bumped bottom tips; previous owner name and gift inscription at front; publisher top edge stain faded. Wrapper with chips at spine bottom/top; wear to front flap fold; light edge wear. VERY GOOD/VERY GOOD.

Spine titles in black only. 258 pages with three pages of publisher's ads at the rear. With a frontispiece and three internal illustrations on coated paper by Bert Salg, all present. Volume 11 in the Jerry Todd series, issued in early 1932, prior to the large number of format changes that G&D put into effect in May of that year. This copy is in the series' first format: blank endpapers and yellow-gold lettering to the front cover. Ads at the rear list books by Leo Edwards, the same list that appears on the rear panel of the dust wrapper (see photos), Pee-Wee Harris through "Turns Detective" (1930), and a list of Buddy Books for Boys, a series that G&D dropped in May of 1932 (another good indication that this copy was an early issue; this ad would not appear after the format change). The dust jacket (see photos) has the book's synopsis on the front flap, a list of Jerry Todd titles through "Editor-in-Grief" on the rear flap (the title preceding "Caveman"), and the "They Demanded an Encore" blurb on the rear panel. There are no titles listed here that were published after 1932. The rear flap and panel also indicate a very early printing for this copy. The jacket has the catalogue printed in green on the verso; printings from after May of 1932 would carry this catalogue printed in black until sometime in 1934, when it was removed. The cloth shows mild handling wear, mostly smudges that occur when someone reads the book with the jacket off. There is a short crease to the front cover between the "e" and "r" in "Jerry", and the book has a touch of edgewear at the extremities. The dust jacket has the obvious chip to the front panel, which also touches the head of the spine; there is light chipping at the head and heel and some rubbing at the folds. See the photos for the tape repairs to the verso; there is no tape to the obverse. The book has solid hinges with the binding still square. A clean, tight, unmarked copy; the jacket is now in mylar. Mattson & Davis 34500, format 1. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
