Covering three decades of sporting activities, the accounts describe tours in the Swiss Alps (Matterhorn, Piz Linard, Weisshorn .) as well as excursions to the New Zealand Alps, illustrated with lovely watercolours and a folding map (scale 1:5,000,000), along with trips to Moscow and European mountain regions including Austria, Corsica, Piemont, and Norway. Prepared by several hands in clean German cursive, the meticulously written entries combine route narratives, conditions, and observations characteristic of early club documentation, providing a granular chronicle of alpine practice. Remarks on tunnel construction through the Alps, folk tales about dwarfs, festive toasts, and lamentations over the nuisance of fleas complete the picture. Manuscript series of this scope, particularly with original watercolour illustrations and cartographic material, rarely survive and offer important primary evidence for the culture and logistics of 19th century alpinism as recorded by the largest mountaineering club in Switzerland. - Bindings lightly rubbed.
