C. Hoyte (1835-1913), during which NewZealand's leading p ainters were, to a man, European-born and seeing the country as a new and quite unfamiliar land.The period of Transition covers the 1870s to the 1920s, and the author opens it with W. Helpful, accessible text in double column, and nearly 150 plates of which 80 are in full, glorious color, mostly being tipped in, and some being full page…. A bit of very mild dust soiling along bottom edge, else a virtually pristine interior. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, showing only very minor wear, protected by a plastic coat, dust jacket not being price-clipped. Housed in a Good condition, still structurally sound but unlovely, moderately worn, illustrated cardboard slip-case. The text is almost as much about New Zealand history as about its painters, sculptors, etchers and collage artists. Gil Docking was Director of the Auckland City Art Gallery in the 1960s.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.

Dustwrapper bears light thumbing of edges. Covers show light indentations and the odd scratch mark when held up to the light.
