From Wired, Nov 1994: Picture Dunitz.holding a paintbrush wired into a nearby power supply. Dipping this brush into an electrolyte mixture, he then attacks the surface of sheets of reactive metals. Electricity flows through the brush to the metal: by changing the voltage, he manipulates the layers of oxidation and, in turn, the colors.Intermittently, he etches grooves and scratches into the surface with a grinder or wire brush. But it's.the photography, that gives his work its shadows, turbulence, and dreamlike mystery. Using as many as 30 lights to illuminate one evocative image, Dunitz takes weeks to explore the pieces. 104 pages; 52 color photographic plates; 16.5 x 13.5 inches. Includes brief biography and bibliography; artist's notes; list of plates. Edition limited to 5000 copies. 96 pages.…

Shipped with care. --- A large-format monograph of color plates by Jay Dunitz from his Pacific Light series of abstract Cibachrome photographs. The images record the surface of stainless steel that he altered by hand with a blowtorch, grinder and wire brush. Because the colors and textures produced on freshly worked metal soon faded, photography became his means of fixing them. The resulting pictures are nonrepresentational: curved lines and angular forms in intense teal, magenta and blue set against dark grounds. The plates are numbered within the series, and the text includes an introduction and an afterword by two other writers. Signed by Author.…
