Th…e botanical part contains a General Description of the Botanical Character of the Country, a Description of Forest Trees (with special attention to those of California), Description of the Cactaceae, Descriptions of the General Botanical Collections, and Description of the mosses and liverworts. There is a very large profile map of trees that occurred on the route from the 35th parallel to the Pacific, engraved, and hand-colored. In addition there are many full-page engravings accompanying each of the botanical sections -- cactus (24), trees (26), and mosses (10). Occasional foxing. Original binding -- 1/2 leather over marbled boards -- rubbed and worn, but very sound. Very good copy.
