The grinders were to be used on farms to grind ". every king of feed, from small grain to sheaves of fodder corn.".

The General Iron Foundry was established in London in 1852 and exhibited at the International Exhibitions of 1862 and 1867. The London company appears to be no longer in existence, although companies of this name are currently recorded in Romford and Stroud. This is an interesting collection of 160 Acknowledgment of Order receipts from The Brettell Lane Foundry Ironfounders, Ltd, of Brierley Hill in Staffordshire, The receipts date from 1951, and provide a nice record of the foundries output and sales during the year The receipts measure 10.25 inches by 8.25 inches approx. a tear in the first receipt, Some creasing and marking, else in good general condition.
