Per quanto riguarda la sua vita politica sappiamo molto di lui da quando Riccardo Misasi per la prima volta nel 1987 lo inserì come candidato nella lista della DC. Nel 1994 fu eletto al Senato di Roma e successivamente nel 1995 vinse le elezioni come Presidente della Regione Calabria e poi nel 1999 fu eletto al Parlamento Europeo. Al contrario, per quanto riguarda la sua vita scientifica sappiamo ben poco di lui se non che è stato un professore di Farmacologia di fama internazionale, avendo egli cominciato la sua carriera presso l'Università di Napoli subito dopo la laurea e successivamente presso l'Università di Messina e quella di Catanzaro dove fu uno dei padri fondatori della Facoltà di Medicina e del Policlinico di Germaneto come pure delle Facoltà di Farmacia di Catanzaro e di Cosenza. Leggendo questo volume saranno chiari i contributi e le sue scoperte nella decodificazione di alcuni segreti di questo ancora misterioso pianeta che è il cervello, nella comprensione del ruolo di varie aree cerebrali.
