Erstausgabe
First Edition. This copy belonged to Mrs. D.W. Griffith, Linda Arvidson, and has her bookplate ÒLinda A. GriffithÓ affixed to the front pastedown. The bookplate measures 3 5/8Ó x 4 7/8Ó and depicts a charming outdoor scene with a young woman lying down reading a book with a tent nearby and mountains in the background. Illustrated. Near fine slightly dust soiled copy with some very minor edge wear to the extremities, primarily at the top and bottom of the spine. The first study of GriffithÕs work written during his lifetime and still important. Linda Arvidson (1884 - 1949) was an American stage and film actress who became an early motion picture star while working at Biograph Studios in New York. She quickly became a popular leading lady and met her future husband, director D.W. Griffith as the film industry began its rapid expansion and relevance as an art form in the modern culture. She and Griffith were married from 1906 - 1936, although they separated around 1912, then officially divorcing 24 years later when Griffith wished to remarry. The two managed to keep their marriage confidential for reasons of professional discretion.
