It gives the reader an in-depth, systematic introduction to the concepts and formulas of fracture mechanics, showing how to apply these concepts to practical situations. Important parameters relating to cracking and failure are introduced through a deductive process in Chapter 2, deriving relevant field properties in cracked bodies using simple concepts of elasticity and plasticity.
