The images record the surface of stainless steel that he altered by hand with a blowtorch, grinder and wire brush. Because the colors and textures produced on freshly worked metal soon faded, photography became his means of fixing them. The resulting pictures are nonrepresentational: curved lines and angular forms in intense teal, magenta and blue set against dark grounds.
