A filmmaker with a diverse background in music, drama and television, Hill proved to be a popular storyteller in a variety of genres. His films are tied to important American themes and reflect an ironic, bittersweet vision of life. The book begins with a discussion of the way Hill's films often make their most important statements on the subtextual level. The stories entertain, but the subtext is often disturbing, contradictory, unresolved. Hill felt that all of his major characters create an environment, a fantasy, an illusion, and then go on to make it happen. It continues by tracing the thematic characteristics that are consistent with Hill's depiction of protagonists who create their own environments and then attempt to inhabit them. Then, individual chapters study in detail the art, craft and style of each of his films, including Period of Adjustment, Toys in the Attic, The World of Henry Orient, Hawaii, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Slaughterhouse Five, The Great Waldo Pepper, Slap Shot, A Little Romance, The World According to Garp, The Little Drummer Girl, Funny Farm, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting" ; Andrew Horton is the Jeanne H. Smith Professor of Film and Video Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He is an award-winning screenwriter who has written for American, Greek, New Zealand, Russian, Hungarian, and Norwegian productions. ; "As I get older, I get more didactic. I say what I really think. I don't hide ideas like Easter eggs for people to find. Now, if I have an idea, when something becomes clear to me, I don't embed it in a novel; I simply write it out in an essay as clearly as I can?"--George Roy Hill ; photos of Robin Williams, Paul Newman, Jane Fonda, Jim Hutton, Tony Franciosa, Dean Martin, Yvette Mimieux, Geraldine Page, Peter Sellers, Tippy Walker Marie Spaeth, Max von Sydow, Julie Andrews, Robert Redford, Michael Sacks, Michael Ontkean, Laurence Olivier, Diane Lane, Thelonius Bernard, John Lithgow, Glenn Close, Mary Beth Hurt ; FINE/VG. Soft cover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 1 pages. Published in 1999. Rare Jim Stryker and Walter Kundzicz/Champion Studios collectible item. A 1999 contemporary black-and-white photographic print of Jim Stryker, perhaps the single most good-looking male-nude model ever of his era (together with Tuck Powell), in his only full "butt-rear" nude portrait. The print measures 4 X 6 inches and is presented "bleed". Champion Studio's vintage prints were "pocket size" and had white borders, the indicative practice of the early 1960's. It is encased in a protective plastic sheet. The photograph shows Jim Stryker in a Classical pose, Perfection Incarnate, in the manner of a Greek god. He is photographed in a natural setting, has close-cropped hair (Stryker grew his hair out for his later sessions with Kundzicz). This print was one of the few surviving photographs of Jim's "Early Period" in Walter Kundzicz's personal collection. Furthermore, Stryker did not pose completely nude again, full-frontal or butt-rear, in any of his later iconic portraits although he still revealed a lot in those tight pouches and bikinis. Jim Stryker is the prototypical All-American male beauty. He anticipated by more than three decades the model/stars of the reigning American photographer of the male nude, Bruce Weber. In this truly sexy photograph, Jim's physique is fully developed and perfect. He was a lot slimmer - and also self-consciously shy - in his earliest photographs, which make them more, not less, appealing as such because they visually show us his physical and psychological transformation from "boy-next-door" to confident, full-fledged star. This photograph does NOT appear in Walter Kundzicz's "Champion" book. This is the genuine article, an absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for Jim Stryker, Walter Kundzicz/Champion, and male erotic art photography collectors. This is an original black-and-white photographic print. This is one of only two surviving prints of his only daring and uninhibited "butt-rear" pose, acquired from the Walter Kundzicz Estate. This is the only other copy of the print available online, is eminently suitable for framing, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: There are Jim Stryker and Walter Kundzicz prints available online, but most of them are digital copies or have very serious flaws. So they have little or no collectible value. A rare print thus. One of the iconic American male-nude models of the 20th century. A fine collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER JIM STRYKER PRINTS IN OUR CATALOG). Signed by Author.…

Rare Jim Stryker and Walter Kundzicz/Champion Studios collectible item. An original vintage color photographic print of Jim Stryker, perhaps the single most good-looking male-nude model ever, as photographed in one of his most beautiful and iconic portraits. The print measures 3.5 X 5 inches and has white borders, the vintage-indicative practice of the 1960's. It is encased in a protective plastic sheet. The photograph shows Jim Stryker in a profile pose, set against a natural setting, scantily and revealingly clad in a white bikini brief, and shot with natural light. "Famous for quality color images of handsome, athletic young men from the late 1950's and early 1960's, these photographs of scantily clad athletes (packed with amusing props, costumes, and bulging posing pouches) are notable not only for the commercial success they enjoyed during their heyday but also for their enduring creativity and imagination. Kundzicz and his work left an indelible imprint on male physique photography. Today, nearly half a century later, Kundzicz's work and his most popular models continue to have their ardent fans" (Reed Massengill). Jim Stryker is the prototypical All-American male beauty. He anticipated by more than three decades the model/stars of the reigning American photographer of the male nude, Bruce Weber. In this particular photograph, Jim's physique is fully developed and perfect. This is an original color photographic print. It is very boldly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on verso by the photographer: "W. Kundzicz/Champion". It is also stamped "Champion: Not For Commercial Use Or Minors" (in red) and "Jim Stryker" (in black). As far as we know, this is the only such signed and studio-stamped copy of the print available online, is eminently suitable for framing, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: There are Jim Stryker and Walter Kundzicz prints available online, but most of them are digital copies or have very serious flaws. So they have little or no collectible value. A rare signed print thus. One of the iconic American male-nude models of the 20th century. A fine collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER JIM STRYKER PRINTS IN OUR CATALOG). Signed by Author.…

Two vintage borderless double weight press photographs of conservative author and political commentator William F. Buckley Jr., in a debate during his 1965 campaign for New York mayoral office. Printed mimeo snipe and stamp of PIX agency crediting photographer Jim Seymour on the versos. Buckley's run for mayor was largely a tactic to take votes from the more liberal Republican candidate John Lindsay, and he purportedly did not expect (or desire) to win. From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969. One 9.25 x 7.75 inches, the other 9.75 x 8 inches, both cropped as used during preparation for publication. Both photos Very Good, one with a bruise at the bottom right corner (see image).…

Soft cover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 1 pages. Published in 1988. Rare Jim Stryker and Walter Kundzicz/Champion Studios collectible item. A 1988 vintage color photographic print of Jim Stryker, perhaps the single most good-looking male-nude model ever of his era (together with Tuck Powell), in his only full "butt-rear" nude portrait, signed by Walter Kundzicz. The print measures 3.5 X 5 inches and is presented "bleed". Champion Studio's vintage prints were "pocket size" and had white borders, the indicative practice of the early 1960's. It is encased in a protective plastic sheet. The photograph shows Jim Stryker in a Classical pose, Perfection Incarnate, in the manner of a Greek god. He is photographed in a natural setting, has close-cropped hair (Stryker grew his hair out for his later sessions with Kundzicz), and shows his bikini line.
