Il suo lavoro occupa un posto centrale nel modernismo fotografico tedesco del dopoguerra. Come dice il titolo della mostra "Gestaltete Welt", essa riunisce due correnti centrali di quegli anni. Da un lato, la volontà modernista di formare, progettare, sperimentare e astrarre; dall'altro, un riferimento umanistico al mondo e un'attenzione alla ricostruzione, alla città, alla natura, fino ai suoi elementi costitutivi.Caratteristica del lavoro di Keetman è l'esplorazione costante e creativa delle possibilità creative della macchina fotografica, alla ricerca di una fotografia viva.
